Queenstown, known colloquially as the tourist capital of New Zealand, was chosen as the home of a new T Galleria store by the DFS Group in 2022. This luxury shopping environment is visually stunning – and, thanks to the Freedom Works team, it’s also code compliant.

To begin with, our team installed tactile ground surface indicators made of solid stainless steel, a heavy-duty material designed to withstand considerable amounts of foot traffic. These indicators act as a warning of ground level changes through both colour contrast and texture. In an environment which sees many local and international visitors each year, it is imperative that these measures are taken to support diverse needs and improve accessibility.

The building’s multi-level interior is spanned by several staircases. Here, Freedom Works installed stair nosings to protect the stairs from wear and tear and add an element of slip resistance. In select locations, we used anodised aluminium stair nosing with a solid carborundum strip for extra grip underfoot. Meanwhile, in other locations, we used anodised aluminium stair nosing with a solid santoprene insert.

For regions with volatile winter weather like Queenstown, these slip resistant products are the key to ensuring that constructed environments remain safe and enjoyable all year round.
